Aug 6 - Day 43

Ned and Jerry began the day's ride on a beautiful clear morning. They rode 75 miles from Portland, IN to Bellefontaine, OH, avg 15.9 mph, new total 2768. Bellefontaine is the highest point in Ohio. It is not pronounced Belle-fawn-tane, but Belle-fountain. The reason, we were told, is the town is not French but redneck. We are still in "pop" country, ads refer to Pepsi, etc as pop. Ned and Jerry took time this morning to tour a plant in Minster, OH. They manufacture presses that are used at the plant where Jerry works in PA. It was very interesting to see the various applications used at the plant. Route also took them through agricultural areas, lots of stinky hog farms and a few dairy farms. Arlene saw a pure white hawk this morning. Travelers are beginning to show phobias especially Arlene and trash. We are not permitted to throw trash in motel receptacles, but must put everything in a large bag she brings into the room.

  1. Well you are definately on the down hill side of your ride now, won't be long and PA will be in sight. (especially if you keep up with Ned's speed, running red lights!!!!) Wishing you a good ride today and every day, BE SAFE.
